First Presbyterian Church - Columbia, Tennessee

Children’s Christian Education at First Presbyterian Church begins with a well staffed, quality nursery for infants and toddlers. A safe, loving environment welcomes the smallest child into the Family of God. Sunday morning classes for Toddlers through 5th grade provide Bible learning opportunities using a variety of educational curriculum. Sunday school is from 9:00-10:00..

Nursery
Provided for all Sunday morning activities. A nursery is also offered for many other activities in the life of the church. If you are unsure if a nursery is provided for a particular activity, please call the church office at 388-1985.

Preschool (3-5 year olds must be 3 by Sept.28)
Curriculum: Exploring Faith. Young children learn through repetition. Each week children in this class will have the opportunity to hear a Bible story, say a verse related to the story and bring home a special worship sticker that tells about the story. During the spring quarter the children will be learning about some of the events of the last week of Jesus’ life and how the gospel of Jesus spread.

“Ready, Set, Worship!” (K-2nd grade during Wonderful Wednesday Activities)
At First Presbyterian Church we believe that worship is the response of the whole people of God-and that includes children! In RSW we prepare children to fully participate in the worship service through instruction and nurture. Children learn best by being actively involved in the process. During RSW we use learning centers and games to teach the different aspects of our worship service. Some of the things the children will learn throughout the year include The Apostles’ Creed, The Lord’s Prayer, the Church Year and the Sacraments. We also have special classes for special times of the year like Lent, Easter, Advent and Christmas.

“Pathfinders” (3rd-5th grade during Wonderful Wednesday Activities)
The Pathfinder class is designed to help children learn to use their Bible. Children work in learning centers for half of the class. Learning centers provide self-instruction opportunities that require the children to use their Bible as part of the center activity. Students work at their own pace and are allowed to move freely through the centers completing the task in one center before moving on to the next. The last part of the class is used to review what they did in the center and to respond to the Bible message.
