Bible Study

Timothy Class

The Timothy class was established in the 50’s as the first couples class at First Presbyterian Church. The class meets on the second floor of the sanctuary building (above the library). Each class begins with time to share Joys or express Concerns. The class maintains a prayer list and lifts up everyone on the list to God in an opening prayer each Sunday. The class uses The Present Word Sunday school book as a guide to Bible study. Jim Casselberry has taught this class for six years.

Fellowship Class

This group of adults gathers around tables in our Fellowship Hall to study the Bible and our Christian heritage and how they relate to the world around us. The class has a leader, but it is more a discussion than a lecture class. This year's topic is the Interpretation Bible Study of Acts written by Chuck Williamson. A study guide and book are available. We will also be using some Thoughtful Christian lessons about Paul.  Past studies have included Christian Doctrine by Shirley Guthrie, a study of Luke and a variety of topics from the Thoughtful Christian.

Chapel S.H.E.E.P. (Sharing, Exploring our Experiences, & Participating)

The Chapel SHEEP class is about sharing and exploring our experiences of faith and participating in class discussion and direction. We do a variety of different things during the class year. In previous years we have 1) used a conventional Sunday school book to study heroes of the Old Testament, 2) used thethoughtfulchristian.com to study subjects of interest to the class, 3) worked in teams to write the Calls to Worship and Prayers of Confession for the Advent season, and lately, we have followed the calendar of Bible readings to study the scriptures for each Sunday service in more depth. Greg Martin and Greg Hanners lead the class, but we invite class members to suggest topics or lead discussion if they have a special interest. We also do not pressure people to prepare for the class or come every Sunday. There is wide diversity of age, church background and tenure at our church, so no one should ever feel intimidated. Come as you are and feel free to contribute your thoughts, ideas and experiences to the discussion. This class meets in the Chapel.
